Film: Global Home
Österreich-Premiere im Rahmen von Crossroads

Regie: Eva Stotz
Berlin film graduate Eva Stoltz wanted to travel the world, gain a first hand understanding of international politics and make new friends. She found all that and more through an internet phenomenon that has emerged over the last few years – couch surfing. This low budget method of travel is often billed as a way to see not just the world but its inhabitants in action.
Eva packed up her camera and traded in the virtual world for the real one by heading out into the homes of complete strangers. Her adventures begin in Mali where she shares with a musical Touareg. She also spends time with an ecologist in the Palestinian West Bank, stays in Turkey with a dance fanatic and downtown Tokyo with a wildlife enthusiast and her dogs, before ending up in San Francisco at the office of Casey Fenton, founder of couchsurfing.org, having spent 5 weeks in each location.
The great thing about the best travel documentaries is that the viewer feels they’re experiencing these places firsthand. We’re exposed to sweeping shots of the Left Bank, the lush landscapes of Mali, highrise Tokyo and the whirling dervishes of Turkey, in addition to meeting the generous people she stays with along the way. It’s a vibrant, personalized way to see our global home.
